What are under eye bags?
Different people certainly have different issues under the eyes, but overall, concerns about the eyes or the area around the eyes is a top cosmetic concern. You may describe it as looking tired, having bags under the eyes, or dark circles. The area under the eye can look dark, especially because of volume loss, the skin can become crepey and inelastic, wrinkles can develop and you can develop puffiness. Also, you may notice loose, falling skin on the upper eyelids. It may start at any age in adulthood.

What causes under eye bags?
All of the reasons that you may see aging in your face/skin overall contribute to aging around your eyes. There is volume loss everywhere in the skin as you get older – less collagen production and more collagen destruction, and loss of fat and elastin. You may notice it first (and/or worst) around your eyes because 1) they are central to the face and what people look at most, and 2) the skin is really thin around the eyes naturally, so any changes are very noticeable. There is some genetic component to how and when we age around the eyes and it may start early (in the 20’s and 30’s) for some.
Where do you get under eye bags?
Aging around the eyes happens under the eyes (dark circles, volume loss, puffiness, crepey skin), above the eyes or on the upper eyelids (skin sagging and thinning), or to the side (crow’s feet/wrinkles). You may experience more or less of each of these signs of aging eyes.
