Kybella

About Kybella

Kybella is an enzyme that attacks and breaks down fat cells. It is injected into the area where the fat is located. Once the reaction between the fat cells and the enzyme starts to take place, the area starts to swell. The reaction and swelling aren’t painful, red, or inflamed. The fullness may last for up to a week then the swelling subsides and the majority of the fat is gone.

If you are interested in learning more about using Kybella to treat localized areas of fat or if you would like to speak with one of our Board-Certified dermatologists, schedule an appointment or give us a call at (770) 464-6000.

Schedule

  • When you and Dr. Steele Johnson identifies the area to be treated, the area is marked and the Kybella solution is injected into multiple injection points in a grid-like fashion. Generally, injections into fat aren’t painful, so you don’t feel much when the solution is going in. Once the injections are complete, you are finished.

  • After treatment, you can resume any activities that you’d like. Depending on the area treated, the swelling may prevent you from doing certain activities. The swelling may feel pretty uncomfortable and heavy. Since the areas treated are small though (like chin or bra fat), they don’t usually prevent you from doing normal daily activities (except maybe with a scarf :-)).

  • Once the fat cells are gone, they are gone and no additional treatment is necessary. Most patients need more than 1 treatment to get a satisfactory final result though – in the neighborhood of 3-4 treatments for some areas (like under the chin).
