Wrinkles and Crepey Skin

What are varicose veins?

Varicose veins, also known as spider veins, often look blue, purple, or green and can sometimes look like a cluster. They can be slightly raised or look thick and ropey. They are veins that assist in taking blood back to the heart, but over time, they get stretched out. Minimally invasive treatments are available to remove or reduce their appearance. Don’t worry, you have many, many more veins to do the necessary job, so these varicose, stretched out veins are generally a cosmetic issue more than anything.

For patients bothered by the appearance of spider veins, we offer several treatment options. To learn which treatment option may be right for you, schedule an appointment with Steele Dermatology online or give us a call at (770) 464-6000.

What causes varicose veins?

Over time most of us will get some spider veins of some sort. Sometimes they are deeper, thicker veins and sometimes they’re just the superficial ones, or often both. Veins get older and stretched out over the years and they become visible, especially on the legs. Being “on your feet” a lot can make them show up earlier or make them worse, also child-bearing makes them worse because of increased pressure in the legs during pregnancy, and there is also a genetic component.

Where do you get varicose veins?

The most common place for spider veins to appear is by far on the legs.
